P61M flood control projects in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — A total of P61-million worth of six flood control projects are now set for implementation at the second district of Leyte during the first half of this year, according to Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla.

The Leyte governor told The Freeman that the flood control projects are now in the pipeline for this year and this will be carried out by the 2nd Leyte Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Region 8 in the major rivers and waterways.

Petilla explained these projects will be the priority, citing the experiences of flooding in some areas in the district whenever there is heavy rain or downpour.

The six flood control projects are: The P18-million Malirong flood control and the  drainage systems along Socsocon, Arabunog-Sapsap; the P25.4-million rehabilitation and reconstruction of Binahaan River along Tingib; and the  P9.5-million Malirong River flood control in Guindapuan, all in Pastrana town.

Also in Burauen town, the Barangay Anonang River flood control project has a budget of P8.19 million.

Petilla said these projects are programmed to be finished this year. (FREEMAN)
