Mar relies on ‘silent majority’ for his victory

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas yesterday thanked the so-called “silent majority” to help him “fight the good fight” and achieve victory in the May 9 elections.

“It’s time not to be silent anymore. Let your voice be heard. Let us fight the good fight. This is the fight for decency, for honesty. This is the fight for our country’s future,” Roxas told his supporters, during a press conference in La Carlota City yesterday.

Roxas was in Negros Occidental yesterday for a series of sorties in four key cities. In the morning, he was in Kabankalan City with an estimated crowd of 5,000, and then went to La Carlota City, where he was joined by his running-mate Leni Robredo before an estimated crowd of 6,000.

At 4 p.m., Roxas’ party went to Cadiz City, in northern Negros and by 7 p.m., they held a grand rally in Bacolod City, where a group called “The Silent Majority” joined the event at the Provincial Capitol Lagoon and Park.

Roxas added he was thankful for the “silent majority” that is no longer silent now. This group is not backed by any politican or political group. “This is organic,” he added.

Roxas said he and Robredo will honor their promises to the people as sign of respect for this silent majority. “The support you’ve shown is sincere dahil wala itong kapalit. May your tribe increase,” he added.

—(FREEMAN)
