5 die when car hits 2 tricycles in Eastern Samar

CEBU, Philippines – Five persons died in a road accident along the Maharlika Highway in Sitio Kamaktas at Barangay San Miguel in Balangiga town, Eastern Samar last Saturday afternoon.

Chief Superintendent Cedrick Train, OIC director of the Police Regional Office-8, said the accident involved a Toyota Avanza car, without plate number, which lost its steering control and veered to the opposite lane, hitting two passenger-laden tricycles.

Police identified the fatalities as Renato Brieva, the driver of one of the tricycles, 9-year-old Rica Brieva, 20-year-old Angeline Brieva who died later in the hospital and Gorgonio Bajado, 86, and Joanna Bajado, 20.

Another of Renato’s passenger, Kizza Mae Placienta, was injured and is now confined at a hospital in Tacloban City.

Five passengers in the other tricycle, driven by Narciso Gade, sustained injuries and were rushed to the Alvino Duran Memorial Hospital in Balangiga. —Miriam Garcia Desacada
