EDITORIAL - Even more dead kids

And once again it has happened; another school shooting in the US. This time it happened in Nashville, Tennessee, after Audrey Hale, 28, entered the Covenant School and opened fire, killing six individuals, three of them kids.

Hale was later killed in a shootout with police, one of the few women to ever conduct such a killing.

While police said she wrote a manifesto before going on her murderous rampage, they have not published it or confirmed if it explained why she carried out her actions. However, there are tantalizing clues as to why Hale did what she did: One she identified as a transgender; two, she had previously studied in that Catholic school.

One can surmise she might have been abused at the school or the school might have been against her views with regards to her gender identity. But since many details regarding the incident and the suspect have yet to be released by the police, these remain speculation for now. There was also evidence that she planned to attack others schools aside from this one.

The same with other school shootings carried out recently, it was done with high-powered firearms that were obtained legally. In the US it is already easier and faster for anyone to buy a gun than a car. People also have to wait until they are 21 years old to drink beer, but only 18 to get a gun.

On top of that Tennessee is also known for having some of the most lax gun laws in the country, one doesn’t need a permit to carry a handgun openly or concealed.

It’s sad that it may take some terrible incident like this to make US authorities realize that things have to change. Of course, that fact that we are writing about another mass shooting at a school shows that things haven’t really changed.

As before, we predict that the US will continue to have more and more and even more school shootings that means more and more dead, innocent kids until they realize that not anyone should have a gun, and not all kinds of guns should be made available to anyone.
