USA rioting

READER’S VIEWS - The Freeman

A pro-Trump protest turned violent last Wednesday afternoon January 6 as protesters invaded the U.S. Capitol, breaking into windows and doors. One woman was shot and killed, and three others died of other causes. Some of the protesters were armed. Members of Congress were evacuated as protesters entered both the House and Senate conference rooms.

This riot was kindled when President Donald Trump addressed his supporters in the morning, continuing to spread unfounded claims that the election had been stolen from him. He begged Vice President Mike Pence and Congress to overturn the 7,000,000 votes cast in Biden's favor. He urged protesters to march to the Capitol.

Defense Secretary Chris Miller had to release 1,100 members of the National Guard to stop the protests and remove the offenders from the White House grounds.

Two hours after the Capitol had been broken into, Trump tweeted a video to his followers saying “you have to go home now” but adding: “I love you, you’re very special.”

These ignorant rioters are not special. They are sheep, an embarrassment to America, as our president has been an international embarrassment to us for the last four years.

Twitter and Facebook rightfully locked Trump’s account for spreading disinformation. President-elect Biden called the act “an insurrection,” adding: “I call on this mob to pull back and allow the work of democracy to go forward.”

Republican leaders are distancing themselves from Trump. Trump could be facing multiple criminal charges after he leaves office. Also, there is a movement to remove him from office ASAP, (even though his last day is January 20th).

More violence can be expected. Unfortunately the educated people have been leaving the Republican party, (Trump's party) and joining the Democrats and Independent parties in America. Many of Trump's supporters are so stupid they probably have trouble drinking water.

Fears that Trump could use the military to hold onto power will not work as the U.S. generals have vowed to support the constitution of the United States (they blatantly don't mention supporting Trump in their statements). Therefore the military will not back Trump if he tries any more attempts to stay in power in his final days in office.

Although I can understand why the people in the Philippines may not trust America completely, especially after recent events, I believe they are a better ally than Russia or China. And it seems President Duterte is wisely doing a good job of balancing Russia, China, and America. At the same time it is always best to organize the smaller countries as a team, just like when you have a big bully at school, if you have six small kids together, you can back him down when needed.
