Lamberto G. Ceballos, the Accountant-Visayan Literary Genius

Lamberto G. Ceballos was born on April 16, 1942 in Cawayan, Dalaguete, Cebu. The Visayan literary genius is now a retired Certified Public Accountant, but he never laid down his pen and still continues to craft literary pieces like poems and stories.

 

Among the many awards and recognitions Nyor Lamberto received were:

First prize, De La Salle University Kuwentong Pambata (Cebuano) for “Ang Bag-ong Tabanog ni Biboy (2017); First Prize, Palanca Short Story (Cebuano) for ‘Tuba” (2015); First Prize, Palanca Short Story (Cebuano) for “Ungo sa Sampilar” (2005), Second Prize, Palanca Short Story (Cebuano) for “Tinggutom sa Nayawak” (2003); Third Prize, Gawad Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino Short Story (Cebuano) for “Ang Tinuod nga Pagkatawo ni Amadix” (2008), CCP Grantee/awardee (Cebuano Poetry) for “Ang Libud Suroy nga mga Bata sa Dalan Colon, etc. (1993), UMPIL Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas (2014), and NCCA/NCLA Taboan Literary Award and CCP awardee for Cebuano poetry (1993).

Nyor Lam was part of the group called by the Dean of Cebuano Writers, D.M. Estabaya, as the “Street Poets.” Among his fellow members were Dr. June Allego (founder of Bathalad), Ernesto Lariosa, Rogelio Pono, Renato Pono, Melchor Yburan, Atty. Dionisio Gabriel, Temistocles Adlawan, Jesus Estano, Jose Tomarong, Potenciano Canizares, Jr., Ricardo Patalinjug, Lorenzo Canoy, Antonio Allego, Urias Almagro, Renato Amper, Pantaleon Auman, Palo Aquino, and Gremer Chan Reyes.

Nyor Lam is one of the members of the Bathalad Cebu who won in literary contests and competitions, bringing honor to the group who was once called the Batan-ong Halad or the Young Writers.

Nyor Lam was elevated to the “Hall of Famers” of Bathalad-Sugbo on January 31, 2009 during its convention held at the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. Convention Center. His fellow Hall of Famers were Rogelio S. Pono and Oliver P. Flores. A member is given such an award when he/she has won more than five First Prizes in different categories in literary contests.

On May 17, 2003, Nyor Lam became one of the mainstays of a radio program over dyMR (Radyo ng Bayan) every Saturday entitled “Tanaman sa Halamang Bisaya.” Nyor Lam was also given the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Award, having been part of the “Top 15 Literary Writers in Cebuano in the Post-World War II Era” on February 25, 2019.
