Money talks

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

I just read an article titled "Money Talks." Yes, it does. Money does talk. In casinos, gamblers hear it say "Bye now!"

Pagasa says: "No more weather disturbance this September." What remains is the political disturbance in Congress.

VP Jojo Binay says the Senate investigation of his Makati projects is not anymore in aid of legislation. So what is it? In aid of someone's presidential ambition? Someone who?

A police officer shot a bar waiter and the bar bouncer. The waiter was killed. The bouncer was injured but managed to bounce back to life.

I was given a book about Heaven authored by the famous preacher Billy Graham. Among other things, I read this: "Death reduces all of us to the same rank. It strips the rich of their millions and the poor of their rags."

Back to VP Jojo Binay...while the senators were busy looking into the so-called overpricing of the construction of the Makati City hall, the vice president was busy meeting squatters in the Smokey Mountain and in the slums of Tondo. Sir Binay sure knows how to play the game.

Some basketball fans discussing the performance of Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA World Cup and now in the Asian Games, expressed the same point of view. Their view: "It doesn't matter if they lost their games as long as they played top class cage ball."

* * *

They recalled in particular the Gilas games against Croatia, Argentina, and Puerto Rico and against Iran and South Korea in the Asiad. "They lost their games here but performance wise they were impeccable," they said. "Even the coaches of the winning teams were impressed."

I heard some respectable persons talk about the revival of the clamor to have the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani as well as the no-no reaction of a lot of people. They said: "The Marcoses should take their time."

* * *

"No need rushing or pushing Malacañang into digging the grave for Marcos at the Libingan now. Time will come when someone friendly to the Marcoses would take over Malacañang," they said. Wisely said, isn't that weather weather lang?

OVERHEARD. I received information that since the banning of the wearing of crash helmets by motorcyclists in Ifugao, the so-called riding-in-tandem crimes have stopped. Comment by a taxi driver: "Maayo pang mga Igorot kamao mo sulbad sa krimen nga hangtod karon nagpalabad pa sa ulo sa mga polis nato." Comment: "Bitaw no. Pero utokan sad baya ang mga Igorot. Kinsay laing Pinoy nakahimo og rice terraces?"
