The headline refers to the passengers of Malaysia Airlines plane who were killed after the rebels in Ukraine shot down the airliner.

It was said and heard that there are elementary school teachers who finding a pupil too dumb for his own good would send out the pupil telling him: "Go home and plant kamote."

The government is now doing something to make the lowly kamote a major economic contributor. The Bureau of Agriculture Research and the Tarlac College of Agriculture have teamed up in a project that would bring about the commercialization of the technology for the manufacture of the much needed aqua-feed from kamote.

Once this BAR-TCA project gets out of stream and is fully developed, there would be rejoicing among kamote farmers, not to mention the school kids driven out of the classroom to plant kamote.

I read in the papers that the International Eucharistic Congress and the presidential election will both be held in 2016. The holding of these two events in the same year is, I believe, providential.

This might bring about what we Pinoys have ceaselessly been praying to God to bless us with a truly free, truly honest, truly clean and truly peaceful election.

It's not every presidential election that we host the Eucharistic Congress attended by thousands, if not millions, of people from around the Christian, nay, Catholic world. These religious people will surely be watching the Pinoy brand of electoral process.

OVERHEARD. It says here that the MMDA is offering seedlings to replace typhoon-damaged trees. Comment from a reader: "Very good, MMDA. Pero pustaanay ta, Sir Francis (the MMDA chair), di pa gani ka tubo ang seedlings naa nasay mga bagyong moabot." Comment from another reader: "Dawaton gud na nato ang MMDA seedlings. Mangabuhi lagi na. Sir Francis, dawata ang pusta!"
