Compared to 2011: Crime rate in Talisay down last year

CEBU, Philippines - The anti-criminality campaign put into effect by the Talisay City Police Station has resulted to a significant reduction in the number of crimes registered in 2012 compared to records in 2011.

Outgoing police chief Supt. Eddie Recamara said the number of crimes from January to November 2012 is lower at 438 compared to the 2011 of the same period at 576.

The index crime or crime against person and property in 2012 (theft, robbery, homicide, physical injury, and rape) recorded 294 cases compared to 2011 with 333 cases.

There was an increase in non-index crimes as it recorded 144 cases in 2012 compared to 2011 with only 108.

Non-index crimes are those that involve illegal drugs, illegal logging, illegal fishing, and other violations of environmental laws.

Recamara attributed the big reduction in the number of crimes to the anti-criminality campaign the police are undertaking which include intensified police visibility, intensified patrols, as well as intelligence operations.

Last year, the Talisay City Police Station was awarded as the best component city police station in Central Visayas for its performance in crime prevention during the past year.

Recamara said their achievement was made possible by the cooperation of the local citizenry.

He also cited the Talisay City government for supporting the police force.  (FREEMAN)
