CEBU, Philippines — ARQ Stable’s Rodel “The Hulk” Wenceslao faces the biggest test in his resurgent career as he battles against Korean champion Yoo Sub Shin for the WBC Asia Silver welterweight belt on Saturday, May 27, at the WJ Boxing Club in Yangju City, South Korea.

It’s an added challenge for the 30-year-old Wenceslao being the first ARQ boxer to see action abroad.

ARQ’s strength and conditioning coach Roger Justine Potot said Wenceslao has been training intensely since January of this year and is ready for war behind enemy lines.

“He built up his strength and speed during the first three months of his preparations,” said Potot. “He’s been in Manila early this month sparring and training at the Elorde Gym.”

Wenceslao holds a 19-19-2 win-loss-draw record with 8KOs but is undefeated in five fights since he joined ARQ last year.

He’s up against the 26-year-old Yoo, who won all his three bouts as a pro via stoppage.

Yoo will make the first defense of the WBC regional title he seized after knocking out his more experienced countryman Heuk San Lee in December 2022.  — (FREEMAN)
