CEBU, Philippines — The Buena Hills ballers outclassed San Roque, 72-63, in their sudden-death final match to clinch the championship of the highly successful 2022 Guadalupe Inter-Sitio Cup basketball tournament recently at the Guadalupe Sports Complex in Cebu City.

Korvi Hertz produced a monster double-double show of 21 points and 13 rebounds for Buena Hills to become the hands down choice as Finals Most Valuable Player.

Hertz drew huge support from Em-Em Getubig and Junjun Gacayan who tallied with 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for Buena Hills.

Likewise, Klent Bob Sangcap and Jan Arcelo figured prominently with 21 combined points.

With Buena Hills on top seven, 37-28 , the sharpshooting Gacayan darted two 3-pointers to pad their lead to a double-digit in the second half.

San Roque, under the command of coach Jojo Romarate Teves, staged a daring fightback using their vaunted full-court press to pull within just seven points, 62-69, with only two minutes left to play.

Buena Hills, however, kept their poise and composure in the closing seconds of the contest with playing coach Emmanuel “Wiwi” Baguio leading the way to escape with an emphatic nine-point victory.

Team captain Edzel Maning and ex-USC Warriors Prince Malana, Dranreb Maning, and Kenneth Taborada also made their presence felt for Buena Hills with their defensive prowess that limited the output of San Roque’s top gunners Ervin Badrina and John Paul Faustino.

Badrina paced San Roque with 17 points while Faustino finished with 14 points in a losing effort.

The league was made possible under the supervision of commissioner Alex “The Triggerman” Cainglet. — EBV
