PSC, POC want the best for Olympic bets

CEBU, Philippines —  The country's top sports officials want no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the Filipino Olympic hopefuls can keep their momentum with regard to their preparations for the Tokyo Olympics next year.

With this in mind, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) have jointly sought the approval of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the resumption of training of the four qualified national athletes and a number of hopefuls to the quadrennial games.

The move came about after a virtual meeting initiated by the PSC Board led by officer-in-charge Ramon Fernandez with POC President Bambol Tolentino last Tuesday to take up plans for Phl's Olympic-bound athletes as well as those who have high chances to make the cut.

Both the PSC and POC agreed that it would be best to focus on the country's Olympic bid first given the current situation.

“We initiated the meeting with POC with the good of our national athletes in mind. Lagi yan priority as Chairman Butch Ramirez always say” said Fernandez. COVID-19 not withstanding, we must never lose sight of our goal to give our best for our first Olympic gold.”

Fernandez was quick to say though that the final decision lies in the hands of IATF.
