Mayor Labella X’mas hoop fires off today

CEBU, Philippines — A total of six teams will fight it out for hardcourt supremacy as the 1st Mayor Edgar Labella Christmas Inter-Commercial Basketball League takes off with a heavy triple-header on tap today at the Cebu City Sports Institute gym in Barangay Sawang-Calero.

A goodwill match between the Cebu City LGU and Siargao LGU at 3 p.m. will usher in the week-long tournament organized by the Cebu City Sports Commission (CSCC).

A simple opening program will then take place at 4:30 p.m. to be graced by Mayor Labella.

Afterwhich, three regular games will be contested.

Team JTR will go up against ASPA Formworks at 5 p.m., KCS Lapu-Lapu will take on the SG Builders at 6:30 p.m., while Fighter Wine will lock up horns with the Siargao Wave Riders in the main event at 8 p.m.

The contenders are divided into two groups of three. They will play a single round robin, with the top two teams per bracket advancing to the crossover semifinals. The winners will dispute the title in a knockout match while the losers will battle for third place.

The champion will pocket P100,000 while the second to fourth will receive P70,000, P50,000, and P25,000, respectively.  EBV
