Cebu Blue Marlins rule Buglasan swimfest

CEBU, Philippines —The Cebu Blue Marlins reigned supreme in this year’s Buglasan Invitational Swim Meet at the Gov.Lorenzo Teves Memorial Aqua Center in Dumaguete City the other day.

CBM posted 3,241 points to win the overall crown over hometown bets Silliman University Red Stallions, who only got 2,843 points. The Negros Oriental Blue Dolphins placed third with 2,727 points.

The Blue Marlins of coach Rolando Alvarez banked on their competitive swimmers led by Karen Mae Indaya and Nicolas Rae Merced to win the crown anchored on 25 golds, 32 silvers and 26 bronzes. Their novice bets contributed 10 gold, 19 silver and six bronze medals.

Indaya bagged six golds, while Merced fished out eight gilts to emerge as the most outstanding swimmers in the 18-above age group.

Team Dipolog ended fourth with 1642.5 points while the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu landed at fifth with 1,081 points.

Rounding up the top 11 cast were the Ormoc Kingfishers (1,072), Maria Montesorri International School (879), Dipolog Aqua Warriors (768),  Negros Oriental High School (435.5), Kabankalan Megalons (357) and the City of Naga Electric Eels (197).
