Cepcans take on Lapu-Lapu Chess Club bets in goodwill match

CEBU, Philippines —  The top players of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) will go up against their counterparts from the Lapu-Lapu Chess Club (LCC) in a goodwill match today at The Barracks Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Game time starts at 1:30 pm.

The Cepcans are headed by their president Engr. Jerry Maratas, who will serve as their team captain.

Completing the CEPCA lineup are National Master Rogelio Enriquez Jr., Antonio Cabibil, Loyola, Venancio, Reynaldo Flores, Martin Sean, Edward dela Torre, Mario Bustillo, Michae lTinga, Joselito Loques, Leo Cortez, Rafael Perez, Richard Ouano, Edwin Cablao, Norman Olayvar, Bong San Pascual, Bob Inocian, Filemon Kapuno III, Manny Manzanares, Jojo Muralla, Jun Pasion, Victor Sepulveda, Nic Cuison, Zilverstein Torres, and Gabby Misterio.

The LCC, on the other hand, is led by their president Stephen Rosales.

Fighting under LCC’s banner are Bryle Arellano, Allan Pason, Candidate Master Jerish Velarde, Ariel Joseph Abellana, Raymund Abellana, Justin Flint Misa, Romeo Ramil Resuerra,  Bhell Ortiz, Peterson Sia,  Richard Gohetia Sr., Kraig Quinain, Amado Olea, Richard Gohetia Jr.; Engr. Edilberto Velarde, Jovannie Corro, Alberto Rivera, Rafael Bensi, Raffy Glen Bensi, Jose Faunus Fernandez, Galileo Roma Jr., Rolando Torres, Edmundo Igot, and Judy Tamala.

The two teams will play a 20-board, two-game rapid chess. The team with the highest score after two games wins the match.

As part of its outreach program, CEPCA will donate two chess clocks and five plastic chess sets to LLC.

After the friendly games, there will be a blitz tournament exclusively among players from both teams. The top three winners will pocket P1,500, P1,000, and P500, respectively, while the fourth and fifth will receive P300 each.  - EBV
