Dogfight looms between top junior teams UV and USJ-R

CEBU, Philippines — The ARQ Builders-University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, the hottest teams in the juniors division, are expected to figure in a dogfight as they test each other’s mettle today in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.

Under the command of coach Ronaldo “Magic” Bucao, the Baby Lancers are brandishing a perfect 7-0 record while the Edito Salacut-mentored Baby Jaguars are breathing down their necks having lost only once in seven games.

The Baby Jaguars haven’t dropped a game since suffering their lone setback at the hands of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers last June 16. They capped their five-game winning streak with a spine-chilling 68-67 victory over the Cebu Landmasters/Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-Adc) Magis Eagles on Tuesday evening.

That makes the head-on collision between the Baby Lancers and the Baby Jaguars  scheduled at 5:30 p.m. more exciting and something to watch out for.

In the main match under the seniors division set at 7 pm, the Joemang’s Surplus-University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters hope to sustain their momentum as they seek a repeat performance over the Cebu Landmasters-University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors.

The Webmasters are coming off a vengeful 95-81 victory over the Jaguars that put an end to their three-game jinx two nights ago. The wards of coach Yayoy Alcoseba now hold a 4-3 record, just a full game ahead of the 3-3 Warriors whom they beat exactly a month ago. - EBV
