Archangels, RnT go 2-0 in MGBL hoop

CEBU, Philippines — The Minglanilla Archangels pulled off a hard-earned 41-38 victory over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) to stay unbeaten in the Minglanilla GSports Basketball League (MGBL) developmental age-group tournament over the weekend at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

Kent Altoveros finished with nine points, seven rebounds and two assists as the Archangels took the temporary lead in the Under 13 division with a clean 2-0 slate.

Kurt Regis, on the other, nailed 10 markers laced with four boards and three assists as the Mighty Technologian downed the Tulau Seabzz Jr, 51-41, for its first win the two-month tilt spearheaded by G Sports Entertainment of MGBL founder Gerry Canonigo.

In the other U13 games, Jian Bastida charted 11 points on top of five rebounds and three assists to power the Red Vipers to a 52-33 demolition of the Quatros, while Nimrod Romano banged in 11 points, four rebounds and as many assists as the Vanguars edged the Tungkil Warriors via a 47-46 cliffhanger.

In the Under 17 category, Team RnT also zoomed to its second straight win with an 83-48 rout of USJ-R.

Zeke Gilbuena showed the way for RnT with 12 points, seven assists and two rebounds.

In the other U17 results, William Agamemnon Allosada dropped 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists to vault the University of San Carlos (USC) to a 63-52 drubbing of Pinggan, Johann Benrick Cabrera posted a solid double-double show of 17 points and 12 rebounds spiked with five assists as Springwoods drubbed the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT), 71-65, while Karl Janus Pantonial scored 12 points laced with four rebounds and two assists as Modena decimated the Soldiers, 69-31.
