Hyundai Cup attracts more out-of-towners

CEBU, Philippines — The third edition of the Hyundai Cup-Champions’ League football tournament gets bigger with more out-of-town teams seeing action on April 26-28 at the Fr. Julian Hernando, SJ athletic field of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue. City.

This year’s battle is for players in the Under 17 age group or those born in 2002.

So far, eight squads have already confirmed their participation or double than the number of entries when the league started in 2017.

Half of the contenders are out-of-towners including the Garcia-Hernandez (Gaher) FC of Bohol, Sagay City selection, Tacloban and San Carlos City’s Gannet. This will be the first time for these teams to compete in the annual tilt that will run for three days.

They will go up against Cebu’s top bets in Don Bosco Technical College, KNF-Don Bosco Boys Home, University of San Carlos and host SHS-Ateneo.

They will play a single round robin format, with the top two teams per bracket advancing to the crossover semifinals. The winners will dispute the title on April 28. (FREEMAN)
