CEBU, Philippines —  The Consolacion Sarok Weavers and the Minglanilla Archangels went through different ways before posting their second straight win while the defending champions Talisay City Aquastars again made a strong statement at the start of their quarterfinal campaign in the 2019 Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under 21 Developmental Basketball Tournament last Friday night at the Sogod municipal gym.

Brevin Keith Padayogdog and John Paulo Dalumpines each scored 14 points as Consolacion upended Alegria, 77-67, while Minglanilla rode on a decisive endgame assault to escape past host Sogod by the slimmest of margins, 73-72.

Consolacion of coach Paul Alelu Flores led from start to finish, parlaying a 32-28 lead at halftime into a 13-point bubble after three quarters, 60-47, that become its springboard to a double-digit victory.

Minglanilla, on the other hand, came from behind to turn back Sogod and silence its legion of fans that packed the playing venue to the rafters.

It was a sorry loss for Sogod which led for most of the way after racing to a sizzling 26-14 start.

Sogod was still ahead by seven, 50-43, going into the final 10-minute mark of the contest but Minglanilla, the tournament’s inaugural champion, went on a scoring rampage and used a 36-22 bomb in the windup to frustrate Sogod.

Lyle Eredera topscored for Minglanilla with 18 points followed by Matthre King Cabansay with 10 markers.

In the night’s only lopsided match, Talisay pummeled Tabuelan, 104-79, with five players cashing in twin digits led by Keaton Clyde Taburnal with 23 points.

Jay Deiparine scattered 19 points, Ronan Briones banged in 17, while Kendrick Abarquez and Clark Louis Ruedas connived for 23 points for Talisay, which unleashed a furious offensive storm in the final half to blow Tabuelan out.

Ahead by just seven at halftime, 51-44, Talisay outpointed Tabuelan in the third period, then launched a deadly 30-16 attack at the endgame to come up with a 25-point cakewalk. EBV
