Rams stun Spartans, Silogan Ni Gian starts hot in MSBC hoop

CEBU, Philippines — Kido Cabrera, Jonathan Adlawan and Sam Hermosa stole the show as the Rams upset the defending champion Spartans, 90-86, in the Monday Squad Basketball Cebu (MSBC) Friendship Cup Season 5 at the Casal’s Village gym in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City.

Cabrera, a former collegiate standout from the Univerity of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars who had a brief stint with the Valenzuela Classics in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), topscored for the Rams with 17 points.

Adlawan scored 15, while Hermosa, an All-Star forward during his playing years with the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, chipped in 13 markers for the Rams, who used a solid endgame performance to bring the Spartans down.

Kevin Labay finished with 25 points, while Ian Ortega, once a mainstay of the USC Warriors and Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras, tallied 22 points in a losing effort for the Spartans.

In the other game, Ror Paspie and James Cabilino charted 35 points across their names while Ace Ompok added 16 points as Silogan Ni Gian opened its campaign with a rousing 82-71 victory over VDrink Malunggay Juice.

Silogan Ni Gian was in complete control of the match from the onset and never looked back after posting a 61-50 advantage heading into the final period.

Former UC Webmaster Archie Brian Batua and Ryan Llanos combined for a total of 42 points but their efforts proved futile for the VDrink Juice Makers. EBV
