USC, USJ-R spikers start strong in semis

CEBU, Philippines —  The University of San Carlos and University of San Jose-Recoletos went off to a good start in the boys division semifinals of the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) volleyball tournament yesterday at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation covered court.

 

Defending champion USC spikers hurdled their first semis assignment with a dominating performance at the expense of Southwestern University-Phinma , 25-18, 25-21.

The Josenians, for their part, shocked the top-seeded USPF , in a three-set, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14.

USC will take on USPF in the first game at 1:30 p.m today followed by the match between USJ-R and SWU.            

In the girls class, defending champ USPF belles ruled over USJ-R in a non-bearing matchup before they face each other in the championship round next weekend.

Before they defend their crown, USPF made sure to finish strong in their last semifinal game beating USJ-R, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17.

The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu also won their last assignment against USC, 25-22, 16-25, 25-4.

USC and SHS-AdC will fight for the third place honor next weekend.

Over at the USPF gymnasium, USPF men's team defeated University of Cebu, 17-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-18, while the University of the Visayas upended Cebu Institute of Technology-University , 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-9. Defending champion SWU Cobras pounced USJ-R, 25-9, 25-21, 25-22.

In the women's action, UC blasted CIT-U, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14.
