BAGUIO CITY, Philippines — Team Cebu City athletes missed a back-to-back victory as they settled for second place at the end of the week-long PSC Batang Pinoy National Championships here.

After dominating the Philippine National Games last May, Cebu City only managed to get the second place with 36 gold, 40 silver and 44 bronze medals behind host team Baguio City, which posted an unassailable lead of 83-81-107 gold-silver-bronze medal tally.

Cebu City Sports Commission chairman Edward Hayco is satisfied with their athletes’ performance. “We could have sent more athletes, but as we have decided those who only volunteered and served in our grassroots program were allowed to compete here,” said Hayco.

Laguna settled for third place with 34-13-31 gold-silver-bronze medal tally, while Quezon City and Pangasinan occupied the fourth and fifth place with 29-16-18 and 24-24-25, respectively.

Cebu Province ended its bid with 22 golds, 10 silvers and 21 bronzes, good for sixth place.

Cebu Provincial Sports Commission executive director Attorney Ramil Abing expressed his full satisfaction on the team’s overall performance saying its way better than their previous campaign.

Team Mandaue wound up 14th overall with 12 golds, 14 silvers and 17 bronzes, while Lapu-Lapu City is at 15 with 12-6-13 medal tally.
