USJ-R spikers rule RVL Central Visayas leg

CEBU, Philippines — The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) lady spikers outgunned the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) in straight sets, 3-0, to emerge as champion in the Central Visayas leg of the 2018 Rebisco Volleyball League 18-Under Tournament over the weekend at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu.

After taking the opening set in convincing fashion, 25-17, USJ-R weathered USPF’s spirited challenge in the next two frames, 25-21, 25-23, to nail the crown.

For their feat, USJ-R received a trophy, medals, and P25,000 worth of Mikasa volleyball equipment. They also earn the right to represent Central Visayas in the RVL National Finals on November 17-23 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

It was a double celebration for USJ-R as five of its wards were named outstanding players led by Annie Krizzia Caasi, who romped off with the Most Valuable Player plum.

The other honorees from USJ-R were Dianne Mae Duazo (best libero), Jolly Velasquez (best setter), Louneth Marie Abangan (second best outside attacker), and Chenie Tagaud (second best middle blocker).

The rest of the individual awardees were Marit Krystelle Castillo (best opposite attacker) of Southwestern University-Phinma, Jennifer De los Santos (first best outside attacker) of SHS-Ateneo, and Mitzi Panangin (first best middle blocker) of USPF.

Meanwhile, in the battle for third place, host SHS-AdC edged SWU-Phinma, 25-22, 25-15. (FREEMAN)
