CEBU, Philippines — Garcia-Hernandez FC of Bohol reigned supreme in the 3rd Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Football Invitational after beating Don Bosco-Savio, 2-1, yesterday at the SHS-Ateneo’s Fr. Julian Hernando pitch in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
GaHer had a 1-1 win-loss record after the elimination before scoring an upset victory over the bigger Rosevale of Cagayan De Oro City, 3-1, in the semifinals.
The Bosconians, for their part, advanced into the finals with a big win over host team SHS-Ateneo, 2-1.
Don Bosco entered the championship match as the more favored team, but GaHer coach Alvin Mangubat reminded his team to play their best.
“Ako sila gi remind nga dili ta papilde diri. Dili namo sayangon among pag-anhi sa Cebu,” said Mangubat.
Despite Don Bosco logging the first goal, GaHer booters kept their composure as they connected with two goals in the second half.
Earlier, Rosevale bagged the third place trophy after a 1-0 win over SHS-Ateneo. (FREEMAN)
