Carcar spikers are South champs

CEBU, Philippines — The Carcar City spikers capitalized on their homecourt advantage to upstage Argao in a thrilling four-setter in the deciding match of their best-of-three finals series to clinch the South division championship of the 2018 Cebu Governor's Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under-18 Developmental Volleyball Tournament last Sunday night at the Carcar City Sports Complex.

Host Carcar swept the first two sets with uniform scores of 25-21.

Argao, however, bounced back in the third set but they literally had to pass through the wringer before pulling off a 26-24 decision.

The two protagonists again figured in a nip and tuck battle in the fourth set, but Carcar proved much steadier when it mattered most to finish off the gritty Argao side, 25-22.

Carcar will face next the winner of the North division finals between Mandaue City and Catmon for the overall championship that goes along with a whopping cash prize of P300,000.

As of this writing last night, Mandaue and Catmon were still slugging it out in the do-or-die Game 3 of their own series for the North crown. (FREEMAN)
