Cebu athletes shine in Paralympic Games

CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano para-athletes grabbed six golds and three silver medals during the 2018 National Paralympic Games the other day at the Marikina Sports Center.

Arman Dino led Team Cebu’s charge with three golds via the 100m, 400m and 200m dash, while fellow sprinter Jean Marc Guantero topped the 100m T44 category plus a silver in the 200m race.

In badminton, Ernesto Surban Jr. clinched the championship in the SL4 category, while Alaine Tracy Laput settled for silver in the women’s singles SL3 class.

Cheryl Angot handed Cebu its sixth gold after winning the standard female category in chess.

Manuel Opo, meanwhile, contributed a silver medal in the discus throw F33 category.

The 2018 National Para Games serves as national team tryouts for the third Asian Paralympic Games in Indonesia in October.
