Cebuana netters shine, CV looks to seal fourth overall

Vigan, Ilocos Sur, Philippines –Cebuana netters saved the best for the last as they delivered two gold medals as Central Visayas looks to seal the fourth overall spot going into the final day of the 61st Palarong Pambansa here.

In the unofficial medal tally, Ceevees got 25 golds, 17 silvers and 24 bronzes.

National Capital Region is considered the virtual champion with 80 gold, 59 silver and 44 bronze medals, while the next two spots were occupied by Calabarzon (52-14-59) and Western Visayas (39-36-46).

Lapu-Lapu City’s Tiffany Nocos scored a come-from-behind victory over Bicol’s Glydel Guevarra, 8-6, in the elementary girls singles finals. Guevarra zoomed to a 5-2 lead, but Nocos rallied to tie the game. Momentum shifted on Nocos en route to a golden victory at the Quirino Stadium.

Zethley Mae Alferez made the most of her final Palaro appearance with a gold medal in the girls doubles along with Elizabeth Abarquez. The Alferez-Abarquez tandem upended Calabarzon’s Arianne Nelasco and Tracy Llamas, 8-1.

Guilian Antonio Bandoquillo, for his part, contributed with a bronze in the secondary boys singles.

Over at the San Ildefonso archery range, Phoebe Nicole Amistoso capped her campaign with another gold together with Crisha Mae Merto and Maria Ferimi Gleam Bajado. The trio silenced CARAA, 6-2, in the secondary girls final.

In swimming, Charlyn Romanos, Angel Lyn Docabo, Lorraine Hann and Karen Indaya secured the bronze medal in the 200m girls freestyle relay. Monique Ramas-Uypitching and Martin Sayson also chipped in bronze each in the elementary 100m breast stroke.

Meanwhile, Central Visayas’ sepak takraw boys of Ariel Butaslac, Retchiel Gordoncill and Bry Cabang snared the gold via a thrilling 21-19, 21-19 victory over Calabarzon.

Mark Angelo Servila contributed a silver in the final day of gymnastics, while CV’s chess team added two bronze medals.

At the town of Sta.Maria, CVIRAA ended it bid in gymnastics with an additional silver through Cebu City’s Mark Angelo Servila in the vault.

CVIRAA’s chess team, on the other hand, ended with two bronzes with Jeremy Tanudra taking a bronze in the individual standard and the team event along with Chris Aldritz Pondoyo.
