SWU, USJ-R lady spikers dispute CESAFI beach volley championship

CEBU, Philippines — Defending champion Southwestern University -Phinma lady spikers face arch-nemesis University of San Jose Recoletos for the 2017 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., women’s beach volleyball title today at the Fort San Pedro sand court.

This after SWU and USJ-R defeated their respective foes in the semifinals yesterday.

Dyan Darantinao and Ivie Bautista of SWU overpowered the duo of Yang Perino and EJ Gumandoy of University of Cebu in straight sets, 21-14, 21-11 to claim the finals berth.

Meanwhile, the top-seeded USJ-R of Paula Maninang and Linlyn Torado also scored a lopsided 21-16, 21-10 win over University of Southern Philippines Foundation’s Charisse Sungahid and Jan Marie Gayo.

In the girl’s action, USJ-R belles marched into the final round after beating UC in straight sets, 21-13, 21-7, while defending champion USPF will defend its title against USJ-R after beating SWU, 21-14, 21-19.

The defending men’s champ University of the Visayas spikers will also try to retain their title after upending USPF, 19-21, 21-17, 15-6 in the semis. They will take on USJR who advanced to the finals after silencing SWU, 21-19, 21-14.

USPF boys, for their part, blasted SWU, 19-21, 21-18, 15-11, while defending champ UC outlasted USC- 21-18, 21-23, 15-13. (FREEMAN)
