SWU, USJ-R pummel foes in beach volley

CEBU, Philippines — The Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma lady spikers opened their title defense with a 2-0 shutout of the University of Cebu (UC) in the women's collegiate division of the 2017 Schools Athletics Foundation Inc.(CESAFI) beach volley event yesterday at the Fort San Pedro sand court in Plaza Independencia.

After a dominating 21-9 victory in the opening set, SWU-Phinma's Janelle Cabahug and Ivie Bautista reaffirmed their mastery over UC's Yang Perino and Dina Nacario via 21-16 decision.

In the other women's play, the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) pummeled the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 21-8, 21-17.

In the secondary girls action, SWU-Phinma split their games. They hacked out a 21-17, 21-6 victory over the University of San Carlos (USC), but fell prey to USJ-R, 12-21, 13-22.

On the other hand, USPF pounded the Cebu Eastern College (CEC), 21-8, 21-9. — (FREEMAN)
