CEBU, Philippines - After missing the action last year, Bernardine 'Niño' Siso is finally pushing through his bid in the premiere category of the Indian Club Centenary Tournament along with several other Cebu-based netters in Bahrain today.
Siso, who was not able to compete last year due to visa problems, will see action in the super singles under Group A. He will go up against players from the host country, the Netherlands, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
They will play in a single round robin format, with the top two moving up to the next round.
Aside from Siso, Jerico Bohol is also bent on winning a title in the singles and doubles event, with hopes of making his daddy Johnny proud.
Jerico's dad, Johnny Bohol, is well known in the Indian Club of Bahrain not only as its resident coach for a decade from 1993 to 2003 but also for bagging eight singles titles, six doubles crowns and a couple of veterans titles in the Indian Club Open.
Before coach Johnny retired and went back to Cebu, he and Jerico were able to win a doubles crown also in the Indian Club Open in 2012. It was the first time that a father-and-son tandem had won a title together in Bahrain accordingly.
Now, Jerico is on his own and is also doing well so far in the singles event as he barged into semifinal round of the men's singles. Jerico and Ariel Logronio are also hoping to do well in the men's doubles. They are now in the quarterfinal round along with fellow Pinoys Dwight Alivio and Ronald Anacin, while another Cebuano Jess Espinosa and Cagayan de Oro's Jojo Fernandes bowed out of contention.
