CEBU, Philippines — Authorities are still waiting for the commitment order from the court to transfer Aaron Karl Tan to the Cebu City Jail Male Dormitory after he was arrested Monday afternoon at his home in A. Laura Street, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Tan was identified as the suspect in the hit-and-run death of Jeslar Uriel Larumbe, the 23-year-old basketball player who lost his life after being hit by the car allegedly driven by the suspect last February 4 at 6 a.m. in Queen Road, Barangay Kamputhaw.

The suspect denied that he was the one who hit the victim and said that his friend was driving the car when the accident happened. But the Cebu City police obtained evidence pointing to Tan as the one responsible for the incident.

According to Police Major Mark Don Alfred Leanza, chief of the Abellana Police Station, they obtained evidence that pointed to Tan as being responsible.

Tan was charged for murder after authorities said it wasn’t just a hit-and-run incident.

“That determines na pag-file natin sa court tinanggap ng court ‘yung murder case na finile natin instead of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide which is also bailable and can only be charged for two years and six months,” said Leanza.

The police are considering the case solved even as the arraignment of the suspect is still being scheduled.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office-7 praised the Cebu City Police Office for bringing the case to a close.

PRO-7 spokesman Police Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Ace Pelare said the case was not rushed despite the intense public pressure. — (FREEMAN)
