CEBU, Philippines —  The Cebu City Health Department has trimmed down its regular vaccination sites and schedule following the lower turn-out and demand for COVID-19 vaccines in the city.

CHD acting chief, Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, said the operation of vaccination sites at the Robinson’s Cybergate, Ayala Central Bloc and the University of Cebu - Banilad Campus will end on June 17.

The other regular sites like SM Seaside and SM City Cebu, Robinson’s Galleria, NOAH Complex, and Cebu City Hall (Plaza Sugbo) will remain open though.

However, Dr. Ibones said that during weekends, only two of the regular sites will remain open but not on a permanent schedule as well.

“Atong puli-pulihon ang SM Seaside, unya magpuli-puli ang Robinson’s Galleria ug ang SM City, kana siya magpuli-puli na sila asa atong i-open,” said Dr. Ibones.

Some of the manpower of the vaccination sites due for closing will be transferred to barangay health care centers accordingly to help in the city’s dengue campaign while others to pop-up sites in the barangays and schools. In-school vaccination is also ongoing in preparation for the face-to-face classes here.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ibones is appealing anew to the residents of Cebu City to do their part in preventing dengue.

The CHD noted that most of the affected barangays in dengue are also the same ones badly affected by Typhoon Odette yesterday.

Even with the basura storm done by the city government, the barangays still need more clean-up, especially with the rainy season at present.

As such, Dr. Ibones hopes the residents will also help clean their surroundings and not just wait for the barangay workers to clean up their area.

“Sa atong experience, maghuwat pa sila sa barangay. Unta, dili na sila maghuwat kay daghan tag problema. Naa man tungod sa atuang palibot. Magtinabangay lang unta ta sa atong tagsa-tagsa ka puy-anan sa pagpanglimpyo kay kung atong ning mahimo, sama sa Covid nga nag-usa ta,” Dr. Ibones said. — Decemay P. Padilla, GMR (FREEMAN)
