CEBU, Philippines — The Danao City police have intensified their campaign against loose firearms after an alleged illegal gun dealer and a known gun maker was arrested with eight guns he made.
Police identified the suspect as certain Fernando Manipis, 52, who was arrested in a buy-bust operation on Thursday afternoon in Barangay Suba, Danao City.
Danao City Police Station chief, Police Major Adioleto Cabagnot, said they will be filing the charges today against Manipis, who was caught in possession of eight assorted guns.
“Didto sa area siya ra gud to. Kini man gud na area dungog nga involved kuno ni sya mga ing-ani pag-gama og mga paltik,” said Cabagnot.
In line with this, Cabagnot said they will be intensifying their campaign against loose firearms to also look into the possibility that there is more in town involved in gun dealing.
“Daghan pa ni, kalat-kalat lang,” said Cabagnot.
During interrogation, Manipis allegedly denied the accusations hurled against him, saying that the firearms were only lent for him for coloring and painting.
Cabagnot said they conducted the operation following information given to them.
He added that they would also intensify their operations against loose firearms considering that election season is fast approaching.
“Kini sad mga recent na shooting incident, kung makita nato nga ang mga gigamit nila nga firearm backyard lang jud gigama dili jud gikan sa manufacturer,” said Cabagnot.
Based on their further investigation, some other firearms used in other shooting incidents were found to be made in Danao City.
To address this, Cabagnot appeals for the cooperation of the community by reporting any illegal gun dealing activities.
“Kay sila may mas nahibaw dira sa ilang area kay kami sa police motubag ra sad mi og naay information nga ihatag sa amoa,” said Cabagnot. — GMR (FREEMAN)
