CEBU, Philippines —  The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-7 warned sellers of counterfeit motorcycle parts and accessories following seizure of almost half a million pesos worth of fake items were being sold in different areas in Cebu.

The operation was stemmed from a search warrant sought by a complainant from Manila who claimed to be the only authorized establishment to sell these parts.

The arrested individuals were identified by CIDG-7 chief, Police Colonel Ireneo Dalogdog, as certain Rogelio de Luna, Jho-an Villanueva, Harry Formentera Adasa, Orlando Arsolon, Noel Tamang and Pete Niño Codilla.

“Ngayon nag-umpisa kasi itong operation na to dahil merong isang complainant na galing sa Manila kasi sila lang yung authorized na magbenta ng mga products na to,” said Dalogdog.

The complainant allegedly noticed that the selling of these fake motorcycle parts and accessories has been rampant particularly in Cebu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City and Lapu-Lapu City.

“So acting on that complaint nag-create yung CIDG-7 field unit natin ng team para mag-launch ng operation, ang una nilang ginawa was nagkaroon muna sila ng test buy, ang purpose ng test buy is alamin nila ay yung binebenta ng mga store owners ay hindi fake na mga product,” said Dalogdog.

Upon confirmation that the items were fake, CIDG-7 personnel then conducted the operation which led to the seizure of various counterfeit motorcycle parts and accessories amounting to at least P463,200 from different stores.

“So ito yung magbibigay ng warning, doon sa mga store owners na nagbebenta ng counterfeit o fake products ng parts and accessories ng motorcycle,” said Dalogdog.

According to Dalogdog, a researcher of Motor Industrial Trading personally went to CIDG-7 to raise his complaint against the store owners who were accused of selling the fake products.

Upon the investigation, Dalogdog said these store owners have known that they were selling the fake products for more than a half of the original price.

Dalogdog also said these store owners have one source where the fake products come from that is also from Cebu. — GMR (FREEMAN)
