Police station chiefs told to keep precincts clean

At least one station will be checked every other day in line with the directive of newly installed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar. Eleazar said precincts and their surroundings should always be kept tidy.

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) officials have started inspecting police stations to ensure the precincts are clean and orderly.

At least one station will be checked every other day in line with the directive of newly installed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar. Eleazar said precincts and their surroundings should always be kept tidy.

CCPO has 11 police stations.

These are Police Station 1 (Parian), Police Station 2 (Osmeña Boulevard/Fuente), Police Station 3 (Waterfront), Police Station 4 (Mabolo), Police Station 5 (Carbon), Police Station 6 (Sawang Calero), Police Station 7 (Poblacion Pardo), Police Station 8 (Talamban), Police Station 9 (Guadalupe), Police Station 10 (Labangon), and Police Station 11 (Mambaling).

CCPO deputy director for operations Wilbert Parilla said they will visit police stations every other day using bikes.

“We will check if cleanliness and orderliness are being observed within their area of responsibilities. We will also check if the staff are observing tidiness inside the stations,” he said.

“We have to bear in mind that our police stations are also public offices,” he added.

Sanctions will be imposed on station chiefs if PNP chief’s order is not complied with, Parilla warned.

He said they might be relieved from their posts or charged with administrative cases if found regularly violating the directive.

“We will give them warnings if they fail to keep the station tidy. But if this will continue, then they might either be relieved or charged with administrative cases,” he said.

On May 10, Eleazar announced that he will be implementing an ‘Intensified Cleanliness’ policy within the ranks of the PNP.

Aside from getting rid of scalawags, Eleazar, who is the former chief of the National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) and has gained a reputation in installing discipline among police, also wanted police offices to be kept clean.

Meanwhile, in Cebu Province, Police Colonel Engelbert Soriano, Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) chief, has also directed his personnel to fully enforce Police Regional Office-7 director Ronnie Montejo’s directive on discipline zones.

He said a discipline zone should be established first within a police station.

He also directed police chiefs in the province to always keep their stations clean and orderly.

“Would like to remind them na ang project natin under the leadership of our regional director na discipline zone na dapat mag start sa aming mga opisina na maglinis," he said. — KQD (FREEMAN)
