Road projects worth P140 million break ground in Consolacion

CEBU, Philippines — Road projects totaling P140 million broke grounds in the town of Consolacion, Cebu recently.

The roads, which will cut across three barangays of the town, are expected to provide a safer travel for residents and faster transport of agricultural produce and other commodities.

Cebu Sixth District Rep. Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano Dizon led the groundbreaking rites for the infrastructure projects.

The first project, worth P70.5 million, is the construction of a road that connects Barangays Polog-Panoypoy to Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road.

Another project, which will cost P75 million, is the Polog-Pano road that will connect to Cebu North Hagnaya Wharf Road in support to crushing and batching plant and sanitary landfill in the barangay.

According to Ouano-Dizon, these projects would minimize flooding since drainage system facilities are also included in the construction which are expected to be completed in six months’ time.

Both road projects, she said, would benefit 600 households in the barangays and neighboring areas.

Ouano-Dizon added the access roads in those barangays would serve not only the residents but also the neighboring barangays in terms of mobility and accessibility of their goods, thus spurring the barangays’ economic and commercial growth.

Also attending the groundbreaking rites were Sixth District Board Members Thadeo Jonkie Ouano and Glenn Soco, Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado, Councilor Alfie Ouano, Barangay Captains Glenn Reuyan of Polog, Ares Balaba of Panoypoy, and other barangay officials.

Reuyan, in his speech, said he could not believe that his dream of having a paved road in his barangay has finally turned into reality, as he thanked Ouano-Dizon for the project.

The congresswoman also led the turnover of a newly-concreted road in Barangay Garing, which would give residents more comfortable access to their homes and farms.

The 22-meter road project cost around P2.5 million and is expected to benefit 200 families in the area.

Ouano-Dizon expressed thanks to DPWH 6th District Engr. Daisy Toledo for the successful implementation of the projects and urged barangay officials and beneficiaries to maintain and sustain the turned over projects of the government.

She likewise congratulated the barangay officials headed by Barangay Captain Wesley Alimorin and their constituents for their concern of the road condition in their area, which led to the project’s planning and implementation. — JMD (FREEMAN)
