Olango Island gets 24/7 electricity to lure investors

CEBU, Philippines —  Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan led in the ceremonial switch-on of the 3,600 kilowatts power plant in Olango Island yesterday.

Chan said that this would mean that the island will now have 24/7 electricity after the installation of the power plant that initially operates at 1,000 kwh.

Mactan Electric Company general manager Gilbert Pagobo said that initially the power plant operates at 1,000 kwh per day and another 1,000 kwh per day will operate in the next 30 days.

Chan viewed the switch-on ceremony as freedom from darkness or “kagawasan gikan sa kangitngit” which he considered as a dream come true for every Olangohanon to have a 24/7 electricity.

“Namunga na ang atong kawsa sa pagtinabangay, katumanan na kini sa atong pangandoy nga dugay na atong gidamgo,” said the mayor who toured the said power plant. — GMR (FREEMAN)
