Cebu officials commend Sinas

CEBU, Philippines —  Cebu officials have hailed the appointment of Major General Debold Sinas as the new chief of Philippine National Police (PNP).

Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella, and Cebu City Councilor and former Cebu City Police Advisory Councils chairman Joel Garganera welcomed the appointment of the former director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas.

They also praised Sinas for his accomplishments.

Sinas served from 2018 until 2019 as director of PRO-7 with its headquarters in Camp Sergio Osmeña, Cebu City before he was assigned to lead the National Capital Region’s police (NCRPO).

Dino said Sinas was among the “best” officials in the Visayas.

"He was one of the best officials that we had in the Visayas, and with this promotion, I am positive that he has our back.”

"I have worked with General Sinas and his promotion gives me so much happiness knowing what he can do for his organization," said Dino

Sinas was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new PNP chief last November 9.

For his part, Labella described Sinas as a dedicated official to public service.

“Congratulations on your appointment as new PNP Chief, MGen. Debold Sinas! Prior to your appointment as NCRPO Chief, you served Region VII and I am testament to your dedication to public service. Your appointment is well deserved,” the mayor said.

Aside from the general’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs, the mayor acknowledged Sinas’ efforts in keeping the peace in Cebu City during the May 2019 elections, the Sinulog, and Pasigarbo festivities.

Garganera also praised the new PNP chief for his creativity in ensuring peace and order in major events, such as the Sinulog festival.

"Your crowd control template surrounding the Basilica during the Senior Sto. Nin~o Celebrations is a reminder to us Cebuanos of your innovativeness. Kudos to the new PNP Chief P/Major General Debold Sinas," said Garganera. The 2019 celebration had drawn over three million people.

Thanksgiving

Sinas was in Cebu yesterday for a thanksgiving Mass and for the inauguration of the new molecular laboratory at the headquarters of the Cebu City Police Office in Camp Sotero Cabahug.

He also made a courtesy call on Dino.

Sinas’ visit to Cebu was his first out-of-town visit since he became the PNP chief.  — KQD (FREEMAN)
