Capitol augments medical staff in Bogo hospital

Le Phyllis F. Antojado-Orillaneda - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —   The Capitol sent a reinforcement medical team to the provincial hospital in Bogo City in northern Cebu after the medical staff there have been quarantined for being exposed to patients positive for coronavirus.

The situation has left the hospital severely understaffed. The facility caters to patients from Cebu’s fourth district and neighboring areas.

According to Dr. Christina Giango, Provincial Health Office chief, five nurses and another five nursing attendants were sent to Bogo following information from the chief of hospital there about the shortage of medical manpower.

Giango said this is not the first time the PHO has sent a team to augment the workforce in a provincial hospital. A few weeks back, it also sent teams of medical practitioners to the provincial hospital in Danao City, where a COVID-19 patient was admitted, as well as to district hospital in Bantayan.

Giango added that the Capitol continues to provide personal protective equipment to the province’s 12 provincial and district hospitals.

Meanwhile, 26 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed among the Capitol employees.

Giango said 16 of these cases have already recovered, nine remain active, and one resulted in death.  JMD (FREEMAN)
