33 thousand ineligible recipients receive P6,000 cash aid

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — At least 33,000 ineligible beneficiaries in Central Visayas each received the P6,000 emergency cash assistance while 11,000 recipients got double subsidy.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 assistant regional director Shalaine Marie Lucero said that these beneficiaries should return the P6,000 they have  received.

"Kani sila tanan dapat ilaha gyud nang i uli ang ilang nadawat nga P6,000. Ilaha gyud nang responsibilidad nga i-uli," said Lucero.

Lucero said these ineligible to receive are not really the poorest among the poor, who are the supposed beneficiaries.

Those who received double subsidy from DSWD and the Department of Labor and Employment should return the money, Lucero said.

Lucero added of the 44,000 recipients (33,000 ineligible SAP beneficiaries and 11,000 recipients receiving double subsidy), only around 2,000 have returned the money.

Under the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, P200 billion was allocated as SAP Bayanihan Fund or financial aid to 18 million low-income families all over the country.

They would receive a special financial subsidy amounting to P5,000 to a maximum of P8,000 a month, depending on the minimum wage of the particular region.  LPM (FREEMAN)
