3 Talisay villages get water supply

Manipis Barangay Captain Joselito Laurente said his village suffers from water crisis every year owing to the dry season.

CEBU, Philippines —  At least three mountain barangays in Talisay City received water amid a shortage of supply.

The city government through the City Fire Department and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office started rationing water to elevated communities like barangays Manipis, Campo 4 and Tapul.

Manipis Barangay Captain Joselito Laurente said his village suffers from water crisis every year owing to the dry season.

He said the villagers need water, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

“Kinahanglan gyud kaayo ron kay unsaon man namo paglimpyo sa among kaugalingon aron malikay sa virus,” he said.

According to the World Health Organization, water shortages affect the spread of the pathogenic organisms, such as bacteria and viruses

The international health body earlier said the lack of water will limit handwashing and compromise the cleaning and sanitation of health care facilities and households.

It added that lack of water would threaten infection prevention and control measures and will have an impact on health.

The residents are encouraged to practice water conservation.

“Amo gyud gitipid ang tubig kay menus kaayo ang supply namo. Gawas sa pagpanglaba gamiton sab ang tubig sa paglimpyo sa ubang butang,” said Maria Cabanes, a barangay resident. KQD (FREEMAN)
