CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella has directed the Cebu City Police Office to check if there are marijuana plantations in the mountain barangays.

The mayor, who attended the summit of the police yesterday, said he was told by Police Regional Office-7 director Brigadier General Debold Sinas that marijuana is now frequently used by people compared to shabu.

“This is a matter that I will also direct the Cebu City Police Office to go up in the mountain sides pero matud pa ni General Sinas nga dili kuno diri sa atong kabukiran but sa ubang mga lungsod. Atong ipa-tan aw gyud,” Labella told reporters.

Despite the number of apprehensions, Labella said Sinas told him that marijuana use is still prevalent among the elders. The mayor commended the CCPO for the numerous awards received during the Police Service Anniversary yesterday.

But the mayor urged the police to continue its relentless efforts against petty crimes and other forms of criminality.

“Whenever, wherever…there’s a possibility nga mga criminal naa dinha especially nga we are a highly-urbanized city. But, we should be on guard,” the mayor told the police.

Labella said he is closely coordinating with CCPO Director Colonel Gemma Vinluan.

Meanwhile, the city government vowed to help the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office in looking for a regional office here in Cebu. Labella said he was asked by PCSO General Manager Royina Garma to assist her in establishing an office.

“Mangita ta. Atong tabangan because PCSO has been very helpful to our constituents in terms of funding for medicines and less privileged members,” the mayor said.—  FPL (FREEMAN)
