Cebu mayors pick Frasco as LMP chief bet

CEBU, Philippines — Reelected Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco has been endorsed by majority of Cebu mayors to head the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Cebu Chapter.

It was announced by outgoing Tuburan Mayor and LMP-Cebu Chapter President Aljun Diamante during the chapter’s recent general assembly.

“She (Garcia-Frasco) is very supportive of the activities and programs of LMP from 2016 to 2019. So she will be a unifying factor of all the LMP members of Cebu,” he told The FREEMAN.

Dimante’s announcement elicited applause and cheers from the audience.

Garcia-Frasco said she is “deeply grateful and humbled’ by the endorsement of her fellow mayors.

"We can further make the LMP a potent force for unification of all mayors in the entire Province of Cebu. Magkahiusa tang tanan alang sa kalambuan sa tagsa-tagsa nato ka munisipalidad ug sa tibuok Probinsya sa Sugbo," she said.

During her first term as mayor, Liloan was named best local government unit (LGU) in good governance in Cebu, the number one municipality in Cebu, and the most child-friendly LGU in Cebu, among others.

Diamante, who will assume as Tuburan vice mayor next week, is not a political ally of Garcia-Frasco’s mother, Governor-elect and Cebu Third District Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia.

“Dili man mi kontra ni Governor Gwen. Dili lang mi ka-partido. As what I’ve said before nga ang LMP is a non-partisan league and it is not a political party,” he said. (FREEMAN)
