Police to form task force to investigate Tuburan twin murder

CEBU, Philippines —  The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) will form a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to expedite the investigation and resolution of a case involving two victims believed to have been summary executed.

PRO-7 Director Debold Sinas told reporters yesterday that he has discussed with Police Colonel Manuel Abrugena, the director of Cebu Provincial Police Office, to form the SITG.

Two charred bodies were found in Barangay Putat, Tuburan last May 28 and were later identified as Nikko Baricar of Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, and John Paul Gallon from Barangay Kalunasan Cebu City.

The two were reportedly close friends.

The police are eyeing involvement in illegal drugs and fraternity war as possible motive in their brutal killing.

Meanwhile, Police Colonel Ismael Gauna said that an SITG will be a good support in the ongoing investigation.

“At our level, we will confirm scientifically the identity of the victims,” he said.

He explained that even though the mothers of the two victims have come forward, they needed scientific evidence to substantiate the claims.

“We have to confirm through DNA examination,” he said.

Gauna said solving the case is a challenge since they do not have any witness.

They are still conducting a background investigation on the two victims to determine who may have had a motive to kill them. — MBG (FREEMAN)
