CEBU, Philippines — The Executive Committee (execom) of Sinulog Foundation Inc. has taken over the preparations for next year’s celebration following the resignation of executive director Ricky Ballesteros.

City Councilor David Tumulak, who sits as chairperson of execom, assured that the movement will not affect the festivity.

“As of now, wala pa ta’y executive director. The ExeCom, kita, maoy ni take over sa preparation ug sa pag-organize. Wala pay plano mangita og ipuli sa executive director kay dili pa necessary,” Tumulak told The FREEMAN.

Tumulak said it would not be difficult to handle since the execom was also actively involved in this year’s celebration.

There are respective tasking for the activities next year with the help of government agencies and other stakeholders, he said.

“Gitrabaho nato ang respective tasking para sa celebration ug mga activities next year. Ang execom, which is part of the SFI, is willing and able to take over sa pag lead aning dako nga selebrasyon,” he said.

Ballesteros decided to resign from his post, explaining that he is “not getting any younger.” He held the position for over 14 years.

Ballesteros said he resigned last May this year to pave way for the new generation to lead the implementation of activities for the Sinulog next year.

He is now the manager of Cebu City Sports Center.

“New generation nasad mo-manage sa Sinulog. Will still help kay ang venue is sports center man. Will concentrate more on venue preparation and other aspects if needed,” Ballesteros said.

Ballesteros said he is more than willing to assist those who will ask assistance from him.

In fact, he said there are some choreographers and coordinators of contingents that consulted him with regard to their performances.

Tumulak said there will be several activities at Fuente Osmeña Circle, Plaza Independencia, and South Road Properties.

All 80 barangays will be allowed to offer their delicacies and goods at Fuente Osmeña circle while there are nightly activities and food stalls at Plaza Independencia.

As for the SRP, Tumulak said concerts and other big events will be held there. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
