Sabalones underling nabbed in raid

CEBU, Philippines — An alleged member of the Franz Sabalones drug group was arrested during a raid conducted by the operatives of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) -7 in Barangay Pitalo, San Fernando, Cebu last Friday evening.

Police Chief Inspector Chuck Barandog identified the suspect as Edwin Genobana, 40, a resident of the place.

The police were armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Antonio Marigomen of the Regional Trial Court Branch 61 in Bogo City.

A caliber .45 pistol with five bullets and three large packs of suspected shabu worth P300,000 were recovered from Genobana’s possession.

Barandog said Genobana had been under surveillance for a month before the raid because of his involvement in illegal drug trade. He is said to be an underling of self-confessed drug lord Franz Sabalones. The police considered Genobana as level 3 high value target in the province of Cebu.

The suspect is temporarily detained at the CIDG-7 detention cell while charges for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and RA 10591 or Illegal Possession of Firearms and Ammunition are being prepared for filing. (FREEMAN)
