Liloan mayor hopes Tayud widening project will resume

CEBU, Philippines - Liloan Mayor Christina Garcia Frasco is hoping that the Tayud, Consolacion-Liloan road widening project will be fast-tracked to alleviate the burden of traffic.

Frasco said that she just learned that the widening of the national road was suspended due to the delay in assessment values by the Cebu Provincial Assessor.

Once the assessment values are available, the Department of Public Works and Highways can proceed with the acquisition of the road right of way and pay those homeowners who will be affected by the road widening project.

Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale said that she will check this matter before the provisional assessor and see what solutions can be done.

Garcia made this statement during the Convergence of Mega Cebu Leaders yesterday with a hope that the suspension will be lifted so that the project works will continue.

The Tayud, Consolacion-Liloan road widening project has been stalled since 2009 due to road right-of-way issues and the need for additional budget.

The Tayud, Consolacion-Liloan road connects to the P2.2 billion Cansaga Bay Bridge, that was inaugurated by former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2010.

The four lane bridge is wide but as soon as it reaches the tip to Consolacion, the road becomes narrow and prone to accidents as it has only two lanes. (FREEMAN)
