Davide gets appointment papers as RPOC-7 head

CEBU, Philippines - A month after his appointment as chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council-7, Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III had officially received his appointment paper from the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The letter, which was sent through fax on February 15, was signed by DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno and approved by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Davide’s appointment certificate as RPOC-7 chairman will be given during the first Special SILG Meeting with RPOC chairperson and vice-chairpersons. The governor said his first official activity will be the Visayas cluster meeting with the Interior Secretary and RPOC chairmen and vice chairmen from Regions 6, 7 and 8 on February 24 in Iloilo City.

He said he was instructed to present Region 7’s peace and order situation, terrorism and insurgency, and issues on illegal drugs and illegal gambling during the meeting.

Davide said he sought the assistance of Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), for the figures.

“We received a letter from DILG instructing us to prepare presentation on illegal drugs, illegal gambling, peace and order situation. I’m asking assistance from PRO-7 through Taliño nga mahatag ko’g figures that I can present during the meeting,” he said.

It can be recalled that Duterte only made the pronouncement over dinner in Cebu last month.

Duterte met with Davide and other officials during a private dinner in one of the restaurants in Cebu after he inspected Tacloban City’s New Hope Village Housing Project in Barangay Santa Elena on January 25.

Duterte reportedly reiterated to Davide his plea for government officials to help his administration’s fight against illegal drugs. (FREEMAN)
