City of Talisay prepares for possible calamities

CEBU, Philippines – The Talisay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council is preparing for response measures after identifying areas that are prone to calamities during typhoon season.

TDRRMC head Alvin Santillana disclosed that several barangays in Talisay are prone to calamities caused by landslides, flooding, and big waves.

Barangay Manipis, Campo 4, Jaclupan, Lagtang and Maghaway are considered as areas prone to landslide, while barangays near a river like San Isidro, Lawaan-2, Lawaan-3, Tabunok, Mohon, Campo-4, Lagtang, Biasong, Dumlog, and Barangay Jaclupan are prone to flooding.

Santillana also identified barangays near coastal areas like San Roque, Tanke, Cansojong, Poblacion, Dumlog, Biasong Pooc as prone to big waves.

Due to days of successive rain, TDRRMC is checking and preparing response equipment such as chain saws, stretchers, and ropes to be ready for any possible calamities that might happen.

The disaster council is also reviewing the evacuation centers identified for each barangay.

Santillana reminded residents to follow instructions that the authorities will give out during risky situations, that if told to evacuate, residents should immediately comply to avoid further risk. —/JBB (FREEMAN)
