Bet arrested for illegal recruitment

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A woman running for councilor in Talisay City, Cebu was arrested late Monday night for large scale illegal recruitment.

Elements of the Regional Special Operations Group enforced the warrant of arrest issued by Regional Trial Court Judge Raphael Yrastorza against Ma. Luisa Cania Ceniza, 51, at La Isla Verde in Barangay San Isidro at past 9 p.m.

Ceniza is running for councilor under the slate of incumbent Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes.

Supt. George Ylanan, RSOG-7 chief, said they started locating Ceniza the moment they received a copy of the warrant.

Ylanan said Ceniza did not resist and was brought to Fuente Police Station where she is currently detained.

Ceniza declined to give comment to reporters but her father, Primitivo Cania, said the arrest was politically motivated.

“100% political, labing siguro kontra gyud,” Cania said, albeit not naming names.

Cania said that prior to the enforcement of the warrant, he and Ceniza even went to Yrastorza’s sala so Ceniza could turn herself in but they were reportedly informed there was no longer a complaint.

But Ylanan said the court issued the warrant.

“Naay warrant buhi nga warrant, ipatuman ang warrant,” he said. – (FREEMAN)
